Sullivan Johns

Sullivan Johns is a composer and musician from the UK.
He studied at Leeds Conservatoire and Leeds Arts University.

His latest work and forthcoming release is titled Pitched Variations -
Constructed from single bassoon and violin notes played by three musicians, these seven short form acoustic interpretations are shaped through pitch control and automation. The raw audio is worked to form slippages in recognition, coaxing out melodic dissonance and interference tones.

His previous release, Assembled Parts (Rusted Tone Recordings - 2022), constructs a narrative on themes of loss, grief and memory using minimal drones and field recordings. Described by Bandcamp New and Notable as "Striking experimental compositions that conjure both childhood joy and icy terror”, pieces from Assembled Parts were Broadcast on BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction and included on The Wire Tapper 60, the acclaimed series of new music compilations.

Currently residing in his hometown of Hebden Bridge, Johns lives and works in a converted factory space. He curates a monthly radio show titled Notes in Dialogue for CAMP Radio, a residential arts and music school based in the French Pyrenees.
